INAUGURAL  FUNCTION

The QF launch function of 18th dec.2004 at Hotel Atithi was a resounding success.  It was attended by leading personalities from various professions.  The thrust to the launch was provided by Mr. G. Gyani, the Secretary General of Quality Council of India (QCI), and Mr. P.V. Narasimham, the Director General of Somaiya Institute of Management.

 

OTHER  EVENTS

Prof. Dr. N.M. Kondap, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS spoke on "QUALITY INITIATIVES IN SOCIAL & VOLUNTARY WORK IN INDIA” in an Interactive Lecture programme organized at Narsi Monji Institute of Management Studies on Friday, 28 January 2005 at 1830 hrs. 


Prof. P.V. Narasimhan, Director General , KJSIM  spoke on "QUALITY  IN PERSONAL  INVESTMENT” in an Interactive Lecture programme organized at  K. J.  Somaiya Institute of Management on Thursday, 24 February 2005 at 1830 hrs.


We obtained our registration under section 7 of Society's Registration Act of 1860 vide Reg. No.  295/2006 on  3 February 2006


Mr. B. Bhattacharya, Secretary, Quality Forum delivered an invited talk on “Standards : Big benefits for small business" on 13 October 2006 in the Seminar on World Standards Day organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) (WRO), Mumbai in MIDC, Andheri (E)


We obtained our second registration under section 29 of Bombay Public Trusts Act 1950 vide Certificate No. F 31079  on 18  November 2006


We had an interactive session of members on 18 December 2006 in Hotel Atithi, Near Mumbai Airport Domestic Terminal.  A plan of action in the couple of fields were discussed, which is in the  process  of  finalization


On Saturday, 28 April 2007, we conducted a half-day Seminar-cum-interactive session for the senior management of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), Mumbai on "Understanding Quality and implementing its Important Elements".  The session was held at the Centre of Excellence on Telecom Technology and Management (CETTM), the training centre of MTNL and was conducted by Mr. Satish, our Chairman and Mr. Bhattacharya, our Hon. Secretary.  This was our first public event after getting ourselves registered and was very much appreciated by the group of senior management of MTNL comprising the acting Executive Director, Chief General Managers, General Managers and Deputy General Managers.  The letter of appreciation issued by MTNL can be viewed here.


We launched our maiden issue of e-Newsletter on 5 July 2007.  A copy has been sent to all members.  The issue can be viewed under e-NEWSLETTER.


A half-day Seminar-cum-interactive session was conducted for the senior officers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited (BSNL) - Maintenance Division, Western Telecom Circle, Mumbai on "Understanding Quality and implementing its Important Elements" on Friday, 13 July 2007.  The session was held in the Conference Room of the BSNL office in Prabhadevi and was  conducted by Mr. Bhattacharya, our Hon. Secretary.


Another half-day Seminar-cum-interactive session was conducted for the senior management of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), Mumbai on "Understanding Quality and implementing its Important Elements".  The session was held at the Centre of Excellence on Telecom Technology and Management (CETTM), the training centre of MTNL on 25h August 2007 and was attended by more than 30 senior officers.  Mr. J. Gopal, the Executive Director, MTNL, Mumbai inaugurated the seminar.


We conducted a joint seminar with ERTL (West) on ‘Simple Techniques on Reliability Evaluation’ at ERTL (W), Mumbai on 26th September, 2007.  It was conducted by the following faculty :

1.     Prof. A.K. Verma, Dept. of Reliability Engineering, IIT Bombay

2.     Prof. A. Srividya, Dept. of Reliability Engineering, IIT Bombay

3.     Mr. P.H. Bhave, Sr. Director, ERTL (West), Mumbai

4.     Mr. P.K. Dutta, Addl. Director, ERTL (West), Mumbai

It was attended by 19 participants from industry, telecom service providers and other organizations.


Mr. B. Bhattacharya, Secretary, Quality Forum delivered an invited talk on “Standards in the life of a common citizen” on 16 October 2007 in the Seminar on World Standards Day organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) (WRO), Mumbai in hotel Kohinoor Intercontinental


As part of our ongoing endeavour, we had our first activity of the New Year in the evening of 1 January 2008 in hotel Atithi, Mumbai through a seminar on quality.  Mr. B. Bhattacharya, the Hon. Secretary welcomed all the members and distinguished guests and reviewed the activities of Quality Forum.  This was followed by presentations made by a presentation made by Mr. S.P. Ranade, Director, IT Power India Pvt. Ltd.  He spoke on “Engineering Quality Assurance in SME Products, Processes and Services”. Thereafter, our second guest speaker, Mr. J. Gopal, Executive Director, MTNL, Mumbai made a very interesting presentation on “Customer orientation in Telecom services in the present competitive environment”.  Lastly, our Chief Guest, Mr. Girdhar Gyani, Secretary General, Quality Council of India (QCI) spoke on the “Role of Quality Forum in enhancing national quality scenario of India”.  He suggested that the Quality Forum with its vast bank of knowledge & competency on quality can take up quality awareness and education in the areas of Service Quality of Public Service Organizations as per IS 15700:2005 and Standard on School Governance prepared by the QCI.  Mr. Ajit Rodrigues, our Vice Chairman gave away the mementos to the distinguished guests.  Mr. P.H. Bhave, Vice Chairman proposed a vote of thanks in the seminar, which was attended by 50 members and was successfully concluded with dinner.


QCI successfully launched the "Accreditation Standard For School Governance" in Mumbai on 19 January 2008 in a well attended function of Educationists and School Principals.  Mr. B. Bhattacharya and Mr. Prakash Kaoray attended the launch function as observers.


Quality Forum was one of the Co-Organizers of the prestigious International Conference on Reliability, Safety and Quality Engineering jointly organized by Nuclear Power Corporation and IIT Bombay from 5 - 7 January 2008.  Mr. P.H. Bhave, Vice-Chairman and Mr. B. Bhattacharya, Secretary, Quality Forum presented two invited papers in the conference which was attended by 300 delegates from India and abroad.


On 4 March 2008, Mr. B. Bhattacharya, Secretary, Quality Forum made a presentation on "Quality of Customer Focus" to the senior officers of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd., (MTNL), West-III Division in the Conference Room of the Kandivli Telephone Exchange.


On 17 May 2008, we conducted a session on Quality in a half-day seminar organized by Wada Industries Association, Wada.  The other session in the seminar was conducted by the Deputy Commissioner (Sales Tax), Palghar on e-Sales Tax.

 

Kochi (Cochin) Centre of Quality Forum was inaugurated on Sunday, 25.05.2008 in a simple function organized in the evening at Hotel Nyle Plaza, Vytilla, Kochi.

The is the first centre of Quality Forum and has at present has 11 members drawn from different profession, viz. doctors, architect, education, healthcare, quality consultant,

Dr. K.S. Radhakrishnan, Vice-Chancellor, Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University, Kochi was the Chief Guest in the function who inaugurated the Kochi Centre.  In his address, Dr. K.S. Radhakrishnan stressed the need for defining Quality principles according to our Culture, Heritage and Needs.  He also mentioned that our young generation is capable of attaining any technological advance.

Mr. T. A. Varkey, Convenor, Quality Forum Kochi Centre welcomed the gathering followed by self introduction of the members.  Mr. B. Bhattacharya, Secretary, Quality Forum, while presiding over the function, explained the various activities of Quality Forum in Mumbai and distributed the Identity Cards to the members.

We organized and conducted our first open programme with the help and support of Quality Council of India (QCI) on Friday, 22 August 2006 in hotel Atithi, near domestic Terminal, Mumbai Airport.  The topic of the Seminar was ‘Quality Management Systems – requirements for service quality by public service organizations as per IS 15700:2005’.

At our request, Mr. Gidhar Gyani, the Secretary General of QCI made a special trip to Mumbai from Delhi and delivered an excellent inaugural address which was very informative for all.  As against our original plan for 25 participants, there were 31 paid participants from various public sector organizations and consulting companies.  Feedback from the participants gave a rating of 85.6% for Good & Excellent for the Seminar, which is quite encouraging.


We successfully conducted our second Seminar with help and support of QCI on “Measurement Management System” on 24 October 2008 in hotel Atithi, near domestic Terminal, Mumbai Airport.

There were 37 paid participants from various manufacturing organizations. Analysis of the feedback gave us a rating of 87.8% for Good & Excellent.
